Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek at the G20 Summit in London

Prime Minister Topolanek and Minister of Finance Miroslav Kalousek attended the London G20 summit on 2 April 2009.

Czech Prime Minister and President of the European Council Mirek Topolánek together with Czech Finance Minister and President of the Ecofin Council Miroslav Kalousek have attended the G20 Summit in London. The London Summit took place at a time when the world confronts the worst economic crisis since the Second World War. 

The London Summit aims were to bring together leaders of the world’s major economies and key international institutions to take the collective action necessary to stabilise the world economy and secure recovery and jobs.

On the eve of the summit the G20 leaders were invited by HM The Queen to a reception in the Buckingham Palace. Later the leaders attended a dinner hosted by the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street while Mrs Sarah Brown hosted a dinner for the leaders´ wives at 11 Downing Street. The finance ministers were invited by Alistair Darling, Chancellor of the Exchequer to a dinner in Tate Modern.

Agreements made at the London Summit and the G20 Finance Minsters meeting that laid the foundations for the summit are recorded in the communiqués Leaders and Finance Ministers signed at these meetings.

After the final plenary session a joint press conference was held by Mr Topolanek and Mr Barroso, President of the European Council.
