President Václav Klaus´ visit to the United Kingdom

President of the Czech Republic HE Mr Václav Klaus and his wife Livia paid a Guest of Government visit to the United Kingdom from 7 till 9 November, 2007.

After arrival on Wednesday 7 November, on the military cemetery of Brookwood President Klaus paid a tribute to the Czechoslovak servicemen who fought in Battle of Britain. He laid a wreath at the memorial for the Czechoslovak servicemen in the presence of ten veterans who had arrived from all over the United Kingdom.
Later on, President Klaus met Mr John
Stuttard, Lord Mayor of the City of London in the Mansion House;
The Rt Hon David Cameron MP, Leader of the Conservative Party.
Later in the afternoon President Klaus gave a lecture on "Climate Change: Challenging the Current Debate" at Chatham House, followed by a vivid discussion.
On Thursday 8 November President Klaus and Mrs Klausová received
an investiture of HRM The Queen and HRH The Princess Royal in the
Buckingham Palace. The same day President Klaus held a meeting with
The Rt Hon Gordon Brown, Prime Minister; The Rt Hon David Miliband
MP; and also The Rt Hon Baroness Hayman, The Lord Speaker in the
House of Lords.
On Thursday morning Mr Klaus granted an interview with BBC HardTalk, Mr Stephen Sackur and later a short interview for BBC Radio 4 World Tonight.
In the evening Mr Klaus left for Belfast, Northern Ireland.
On Friday 9 November in Belfast President Klaus accepted the invitation of Councillor Jim Rodgers, Lord Mayor of Belfast. In his temporary seat at Clarendon House President Klaus had an opportunity to speak with members of the Czech community living in the Northern Ireland introduced by Mr Milan Mladek, Consul Honorary of the Czech Republic to Belfast.
Later on President Klaus met Mr Martin McGuiness,
MP MLA, Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland Assembly and Mr
David McClarty, Deputy Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly. In
the late afternoon Mr Klaus left for Prague.
