On Saturday 17 December 2016, the Defence attaché of the Czech Republic to the United Kingdom, Colonel Jiří Svatoš, organised a Christmas gathering for Czechoslovak WWII veterans.
The festive luncheon at the residence of Colonel Svatoš was attended by General Ivan Otto Schwarz and Colonel Arnošt Polák, who during the 2nd World War served in the 311th Czechoslovak Bomber Squadron of the Royal Air Force. The Embassy of the Czech Republic was represented by the Deputy Ambassador Jan Brunner, for the Slovak Embassy the Defence attaché Colonel Milan Gavlas took part.
A delicious lunch prepared by the wife of Czech Defence attaché Mrs Monika Svatošová was followed with a leisurely conversation and Christmas carols were sung while she played the piano.
Before the guests went home, Colonel Jiří Svatoš gave General Ivan Otto Schwarz and Colonel Arnošt Polák Christmas gifts, thanked them for accepting his invitation and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
