On Sunday 17 June 2018, the annual ceremony was held to commemorate the Czechoslovak paratroopers who assassinated the Nazi Reich Protector, Reinhard Heydrich, in Prague on 27 May 1942.
The event took place in the park of the beautiful town of Leamington Spa, by a fountain in the shape of a parachute. The fountain lists the names of the seven heroic paratroopers who died in the crypt of the Prague cathedral, Ss. Cyril and Methodius: Jan Kubiš, Jozef Gabčík, Adolf Opálka, Josef Valčík, Jan Hrubý, Jaroslav Švarc and Josef Bublík.
Mrs. Georgina Pavel, trustee of the Memorial Fountain Leamington Spa Association, gave a speech, as did the Deputy Ambassador of the Czech Republic Mr. Jan Brunner and the Ambassador of Slovakia HE Lubomír Rehák. Defence attachés from the Embassies of the Czech and Slovak Republics in London, Col. Jiří Niedoba and Col. Jan Goceliak attended the memorial ceremony too. Among other guests were Czech and Slovak compatriots and friends of the association.
In total, approximately 60 people gathered together on a Sunday afternoon to honour the Czechoslovak fighters who died for the freedom of Czechoslovakia.
