Former diplomat Milan Jakobec presented his book 'Bohemia and Albion' at the Embassy

On Thursday 23 May, former diplomat Milan Jakobec presented his new book "Bohemia and Albion" at the Embassy, in which he summarises his memories of his time in London and introduces interesting names from the Czech community in the UK.

Milan Jakobec served as Deputy Ambassador at the Czech Embassy in London from 1994 to 1998. The audience was first greeted by the press and cultural attaché Michal Žižlavský and then Milan Jakobec presented his selected experiences from this period, including Queen Elizabeth II's trip to Prague, the procurement of a statue of Winston Churchill for Prague or pelicans from Prague Zoo for London's St. James's Park.

In the second part of his lecture, he presented prominent Czech personalities connected with Great Britain, both well-known ones, such as the graphic artist Václav Hollar, the conductor Jiří Bělohlávek or the architect Eva Jiřičná, and lesser-known but no less interesting ones, such as the diplomat and jockey Prince Karel Kinský, who was a long-standing member of British society and the lover of the mother of prime minister Churchill.
