Project "Children of Heroes"
On the occasion of Czech Arms Forces Day on 28th June, the Embassy launched a new long-term project called Children of Heroes.
Thousands of Czechoslovak servicemen and women took part in the fight for freedom in the United Kingdom during the Second World War. Many of them started new families and stayed here or returned here after the end of the War. Given the time that has past since the War there are now very few veterans still alive, nevertheless, their legacy lives on with their descendants. That is why we came up with the idea of this project.
The aim of “Children of Heroes” is to acknowledge the brave Czechoslovak air personnel and soldiers who settled, married and had children in the United Kingdom during the War and give their descendants and relatives the chance to tell the world their stories.
The project has two main objectives. To map out our „children of heroes“ living in the United Kingdom and engage them, and to give them the chance to speak out about their lives of their parents and themselves via a video series published on our website and social media.
The author of the music for the video series is world-known British musical composer Mr Julian Anderson.
If you are a descendant or a family member of a Czechoslovak World War II hero and you would like become part of our project, please contact the Embassy’s Press Attaché via email press.london@embassy.mzv.cz.
