Peter Williams' new documentary "Lidice: The Village That Refused to Die"

On Thursday 15th, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the annihilation of Lidice, the Embassy hosted a premier of Peter Williams’ documentary “Lidice: The Village That Refused to Die“.

The event began with short remarks by Vice-Ambassador Michal Strouhal and the film’s author Peter Williams himself. Both spoke about the importance of remembering the history of Lidice and its relation to today. The screening was followed by a discussion and Q&A session with Peter Williams and former BBC Prague correspondent, David Vaughan.

The Czechoslovak village of Lidice was destroyed by the Nazis in June 1942 in reprisal for the assassination of Acting Reich-Protector of Bohemia and Moravia Reinhard Heydrich by Czechoslovak paratroopers flown into the Protectorate from the United Kingdom. The film explores the town's destruction and its aftermath and traces a pilgrimage by Win Horak, who’s 18 family members perished during the annihilation of the village, back from her home in Swindon to the resurrected Lidice.

Peter Williams is an award-winning producer of documentary films with decades of experience in supplying films for BBC, ITV and other TV stations. He has made films on many different topics but often focused on wartime history.
