On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the birth of Czech president, playwright and dissident Václav Havel, the Slovenian premiere of a staged reading of his fictional dialogue "Pig" will take place in Ljubljana on 5 October 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in the Northern Park at the Václav Havel Bench.
This remarkable text, which belongs among Václav Havel’s lesser-known works, has been translated into Slovenian by Aleš Belšak and Jera Jurič, students of the Department of Slavic Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. The reading will be performed by Jure Šimonka and Maja Kunaver, students of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television of the University of Ljubljana.
The event forms part of the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of Václav Havel’s birth and offers a unique opportunity to encounter his literary work in a new linguistic and cultural context. Through this staged reading, audiences will experience Havel’s distinctive humour, insight and ability to reflect critically on society.
We warmly invite all those interested in Czech literature, theatre, and the legacy of Václav Havel to join us for this special literary and theatrical event under the open sky.
