The exhibition presents the close ties between the two nations and the Czech personalities who have influenced Slovenian social life in the fields of architecture, music, theatre, film, photography, science, medicine and even gardening. The common history of the Czech lands and Slovenia, dating back to the early Middle Ages, reached its strongest political and economic ties under the Habsburg Monarchy, which contributed to the bonding of the linguistically close peoples in cultural, political and social terms and to their mutual influence.  Although Vienna was at that time the centre of all innovations that inspired and influenced the whole monarchy, the Slovenes preferred to turn to Prague, which was a Slavic model for them. A number of Czech experts came to the territory of today's Slovenia, made their mark on everyday life, and made their indelible contributions to the history of Slovenia.  The 22-panel exhibition presents personalities of Czech origin who have successfully contributed to the building of Slovenian national identity, culture, education, infrastructure and, last but not least, the sports movement. The vast majority of them have even found a new home and settled here.

The exhibition was initiated by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana, which is also the author of the exhibition, in cooperation with the Prague Castle Administration. The opening of the exhibition was attended by a large number of foreign diplomats, representatives of various scientific and cultural institutions, who also contributed significantly with their archival materials and to whom we would like to express our sincere thanks for their help in the creation of this extensive exhibition.

The exhibition is on view until October 16, 2022 at the Krakovski nasip, an open-air gallery by the Ljubljanica River.
