In recent days, the Czech Republic has been hit by devastating floods that have caused significant damage to infrastructure and threatened the lives and property of residents. In response to this tragic situation, Slovenia quickly offered its help. As part of Slovenia's help to countries affected by the floods, a very valuable shipment of desiccant dryers has just left for the Czech Republic.
Slovenia provided material help through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. A total of 260 dryers were sent to the Czech Republic - 250 smaller models for rooms of 20 square meters and 10 larger dryers for rooms up to 100 square meters.
This assistance shows mutual solidarity and cooperation between EU Member States in times of crisis. The European Civil Protection System enables EU Member States to respond quickly to natural disasters and to offer assistance in terms of human resources, material and expertise.
The floods in the Czech Republic have once again reminded us of the unpredictability of nature and the importance of international solidarity. Slovenia, which experienced similar floods a year ago, responded promptly. In such moments, a rapid response and mutual support are crucial, which is also a fundamental pillar of cooperation in the European Union.
We would like to thank the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and especially the Director General of the RS Administration for Civil Protection and Assistance, Mr Leon Behin, Director-General Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, Mr Edvin Skirt, Ms. Lucija Jereb, Head of European and International Affairs Division and the Ambassador of Slovenia in Prague, H.E. Mr. Aleš Balut, for their prompt and efficient assistance.
We believe that these dryers will help the citizens of Drahanovice near Olomouc to return to their homes as soon as possible.
