Deputy Minister Tlapa met Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts of Tunisia René Trabelsi

On February 21, 2019, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa received Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts of Tunisia René Trabelsi who during his working visit to the Czech Republic took part in the opening ceremony of the International Tourism Trade Fair HOLIDAY WORLD. Beside traditional bilateral topics of cooperation in the political, economic and cultural fields, both officials discussed possibilities of promoting mutual tourism exchange.

Deputy Minister Tlapa highlighted the high level of bilateral political relations. In this regard, he recalled ministerial consultations held in Tunis two months ago, during which he met Prime minister of Tunisia Youssef Chahed.

The meeting was used by both partners to highlight the importance of the diversification of foreign-political activities of the Czech Republic and Tunisia, when Tunisia is one of the priority countries of the Maghreb and North Africa region and the Czech Republic represents an important trade and economic partner for Central Europe . "Tunisia is an example of the successful democratic transition in the Maghreb region for the Czech Republic," said Deputy Minister Tlapa.

The backbone of bilateral relations is trade cooperation, which has been over the past five years steadily growing. The turnover of mutual trade exchange reached 330 mil. USD in 2018.

From the Tunisian perspective, tourism constitutes the second most important economic sector accounting for 10% of GDP. As for the Czech incoming tourism to Tunisia, the Czech Republic ranks at the 4th place among nations.  Last year some 120 000 Czechs visited Tunisia.
