Russia: Nonbiometric Passports

As of July 3, 2024, the Czech Republic recognizes only biometric passports issued by the Russian Federation. This does not pertain to 1) children younger than 15 and 2) persons participating in the Civil Society Program and holders of visas/residence permits issued in the interest of CZE.

New visa applications: CZE does not issue visas to nonbiometric passports issued by the Russian Federation. This also concerns applications filed with nonbiometric passports before adoption of this measure. In such a case, visa will only be issued into a newly issued biometric passport.

Existing stays: Obligation to acquire a biometric passport pertains also to those holders of passports of the Russian Federation who reside in CZE on a basis of a long-term / permanent residence permit. A transitional period until December 31, 2024, has been set for these persons during which they can apply for a biometric passport if they do not possess one. They can stay in CZE and arrive from abroad until this date, if they also present their residence card. For more practical information, contact the Ministry of the Interior or the Alien Police Service.

Entry onto the CZE territory: Holders of passports of the Russian Federation who reside in CZE on a basis of a long-term / permanent residence permit, dispose of a transitional period until December 31, 2024. (There was a transitional period until September 14, 2024, during which holders of nonbiometric passports of the Russian Federetion were allowed to enter the CZE territory through its external Schengen borders (arrival to an international airport in CZE from a non-Schengen airport). The transitional period has been set as a time frame for obtaining a biometric passport and has expired.)
