The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta announces the launch of the annual call for proposals for Small Local Projects for the year 2026. The deadline for submission of project proposals is 19 October 2025.
Small Local Projects are development projects of limited scale identified by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta and, upon approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, administered directly by the Embassy.
The implementer of the project must be a local entity in the respective country (in this case, Indonesia and Timor-Leste). It can be an educational, health, social or cultural institution, a non-governmental non-profit organization, a cooperative, a local government authority, a local community, etc., which will assume contractual responsibility for the substantive implementation of the project vis-à-vis the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta.
The aim of this instrument of the Czech Republic’s bilateral development cooperation is not to build the capacity of the implementer but to support its small-scale development activities. A Small Local Project supported by the Czech Republic should bring not only development outputs but also contribute to enhancing the visibility of the Czech Republic in the respective country. Various projects may be supported, for example those focused on local development, improvement of health or medical care, poverty reduction, access to education, training of people in rural areas, environmental protection, or improving the position of women in society.
Through this scheme, the Czech Republic supports necessary local initiatives which lack sufficient financial resources and need assistance. It is desirable that the implementer cooperates with Czech entities, e.g. by purchasing Czech products, using Czech know-how, etc. This development tool may also be used for participation in larger programmes with other donors, especially from the EU.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR A SMALL LOCAL PROJECT CONTRIBUTION
A Small Local Project can only be implemented by a local entity with legal personality in the country of implementation. Thus, an individual cannot apply on their own behalf. Contributions can be awarded only to non-political and non-governmental organizations. Each organization may apply for contributions for several projects, but only one project per applicant can be supported from the Czech development cooperation funds.
The project must be relevant to the needs and priorities of the target country and must align with the priorities of the Czech Republic’s foreign development cooperation.
BUDGET AND POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTION
The financial contribution for a Small Local Project ranges from CZK 200,000 to 500,000 (approximately USD 10,500 – 24,000). Each organization may apply for contributions for several projects, but only one project per applicant can be supported from the funds of Czech development cooperation. The approved amount in CZK is binding and must be used for conversion into other currencies.
The project should be purposeful, economical, and efficient. Therefore, all payments must be documented by receipts. Administrative costs of the project – such as salaries/fees, per diems, accommodation, travel, insurance, vaccinations, and other personal costs of the implementer – must not exceed 25% of the total budget. It is recommended that the contribution does not cover the entire budget of the project and that co-financing from other sources is ensured.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
The project can start after the contract is signed, usually in March 2026, and all activities including the financial settlement must be completed by 31 October 2026.
Tangible outputs of the project must be marked with the logo of Czech Development Cooperation. In the case of intangible project activities, the financial support of Czech Development Cooperation must always be acknowledged.
All projects should aim at sustainability without the need for long-term support from the Czech Republic or other donors.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A SMALL LOCAL PROJECT CONTRIBUTION
The application for a Small Local Project contribution must include:
- A completed identification form (in English or Czech) with the organization’s stamp and signature (in original),
- A copy of a document (preferably in English or translated into English) proving the applicant’s legal status (official registration),
- A confirmation (preferably in English or translated into English) that the person who signed the identification form is authorized to act on behalf of the organization applying for the contribution.
The identification form must clearly and concisely define the purpose of the project, its impacts, and sustainability. The budget breakdown must correspond to the narrative part of the project. Budget category no. 2 “Personal costs and per diems” and no. 3 “Travel costs” in the “Budget proposal in Local Currency and CZK” section of the identification form are intended exclusively for the implementer’s personal and travel expenses related to project administration (such as project coordinator, financial manager, accountant, administrator, etc.).
The application must be submitted no later than 19 October 2025 to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta in paper form at the following address:
Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta
Jl. Gereja Theresia 20, Menteng, Jakarta 10350
Please clearly mark the envelope with “MLP 2026”.
Before sending the application by post or courier, the application (identification form) must be scanned in PDF format and also sent in Excel format. Both files must be sent electronically to the following email address: jakarta.commerce@mzv.gov.cz
Upon approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, a project implementation contract will be signed between the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta and the applicant, approximately in March 2026. Please note that this is a preliminary identification of possible projects for implementation, subject to approval of sufficient budget allocation for Czech development assistance.
