Ambassador Tomáš Smetánka and DPR Chairman Setya Novanto met 11 February 2015 and explored the potential for enhancing mutual cooperation in the area of air, railway and urban transportation, defence industries or waste management. They also discussed strengthening of inter-parliamentary contacts.
Meeting of the Ambassador and the Chairman of the People's Representative Council followed up on the latter's visit to the Czech Republic last December and his meeting at the Czech Parliament. They discussed the current status of the Czech-Indonesian relations and the potential for their further enhancement. DPR Chairman Setya Novanto mentioned the economic cooperation, stressing transport technology, infrastructure and expertise, and the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Area of Defence, passed by DPR in 2012. Ambassador Tomáš Smetánka appreciated Indonesia as a very important economic and political partner in South-East Asia and informed about an upcoming visit of the Minister of Transport to the Czech Republic. They both agreed that interparliamentary cooperation deserves to be strengthened, being a significant political instrument of the development of mutual relations.
