Summer School of Slavonic Studies

The Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies (SSSS) are Czech language study courses organized by several public universities in the Czech Republic.  The  Czech Republic is offering 2 scholarships for applicants from the Netherlands -  one for the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Charles University in Prague, and one for the Faculty of Philosophy of Masaryk University in Brno.  

 Courses are held annually during the summer months (July, August, September). Their duration ranges from 3 to 4 weeks. The length of the course is determined by the organizing school.

Within the framework of their educational blocks, the individual organizing schools offer Czech language courses at various levels of proficiency, selective seminars focused on Czech literature, culture and history, leisure activities including theater, music and dance performances, excursions, sightseeing tours, etc. 

The courses are designed for foreign students, specialists (teachers, translators, interpreters) and academics in the field of Czech studies and Slavonic studies who are over 18 years old. However, they are open to all those interested in the Czech language, literature, history, and culture.


The scholarship includes:

  • accommodation and meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner);
  • enrollment and tuition;
  • trips and excursions;
  • some Summer Schools also provide public transport tickets (information available on the website of the relevant Summer School).

The scholarship does not include:

  • international transport costs;
  • insurance costs;
  • visa processing costs

Application  for the scholarship should be  sent to the Dutch organization NUFFIC  until March 5, 2020 (www.nuffic.nl - contact person Mr Luis Helstone) . 


Summer School courses are open also to foreign nationals who do not hold or cannot apply for the aforementioned scholarships and wish to bear the related expenses themselves.  Applications are to be filed directly with the selected faculty/institute in this case.
