Book presentation of Jaroslav Rudis' Het volk boven (National Avenue)

On Tuesday the 6th of March the Czech writer Jaroslav Rudiš (1972) will present the Dutch publication of his latest book 'National Avenue' ('Het volk boven'). The evening will be moderated by Guido Snel, professor of Modern European Literature at the University of Amsterdam.
The event is organised by the Czech Centre Rotterdam, the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Groningen, Uitgeverij Nobelman, the Czech Literary Centre and the Moravian Library.

Free entrance.

Comeniusdag 2018
 

Comenius day, the annual commemoration of the birth of J.A. Comenius and his legacy, will take place at Grote Kerk church in Naarden on Saturday the 17th of March. The traditional Comenius speech will be given by Prof. dr. Ernst Hirsch Ballin, distinguished professor at Tilburg University and professor of Human Rights Law at the University of Amsterdam. His speech is titled ‘Doorleegde democratie’ (Democracy We Lived Through). This year's Jan Amos Comenoius Prize will be awarded to the former Vice President of the Council of State Herman D. Tjeenk Willink.

 

Before the official start of the programme at 1 pm, a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Comenius memorial in the Marktstraat, Naarden. The wreaths will be laid by the ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary and the municipal representatives of Gooise Meren.

Free entrance. Registration in advance required.

Gein Cultuur Groningen

The fifth edition of Gein Cultuur Groningen, an afternoon devoted to Jewish culture will take place on the 18th of March in the Mennohuis Doopsgezindekerk in Groningen. Two films made in Czech co-production - Into the North and Inside Hana's Suitcase will be screened at the event.

The program is divided into sections with number different activities, such as workshops, lectures or discussions.

 

Attention: the Czech films are part of two different sections!

Entrance:  €10 (cash payment only)

Exhibition 12 Worlds

For the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, an exhibition showcasing the art of modern Czech children’s book illustration will take place from the 12th of March to 15th of April in the library in Groningen.

12 renowned Czech illustrators and artists present their world in the exhibition.

On Sunday the 25th of March there will be a special afternoon activity programme for children (ages 4 and up) to make illustrations, colour pictures and draw their own short comics. There will be also a reading of Czech stories and fairy tales in Dutch.

Startpoint
 

The international art competition STARTPOINT offers space to recently graduated artists from all over Europe. A selected number of artists, amongst them Pamela Kuťáková from the Czech Republic, will exhibit in art-society Arti et Amicitiae Amsterdam. The opening night will take place on Friday 9 March.

The exhibition takes place until 8th April and shows number of young artists from different countries: Filip Anthonissen (Belgium), Caz Egelie (the Netherlands), Michelle Hall (Ireland), Vytautas Kumža (Lithuania), Tomasz Kobialka (Poland), Mariana Murta (Portugal) a Jana Shostak (Poland).
