On 5 November, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in The Hague and the Czech Center in Rotterdam organized a commemoration of the 4th anniversary of the unveiling of the Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk's Memorial in Rotterdam.
The Czech Ambassador to the Netherlands Ms Kateřina Sequensová recalled the importance of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (TGM) and expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the creation of the memorial. Ambassador Sequensová and Deputy Ambassador of the Slovak Republic Dana Hůlková paid tribute to the first president of Czechoslovakia.
The memorial is placed in the center of Rotterdam near the location where TGM met in October 1914 with British historian and journalist Robert Seton-Watson, to whom he outlined his vision of future independent Czechoslovakia. Mr Jan Henneman and Mr Pieter Goedhart, who came with the idea of creating a memorial, presented details of this historical meeting and further information on TGM's connections with the Netherlands.
The event is part of a series of activities through which the Embassy of the Czech Republic commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Czechoslovakia and the Netherlands.
