Ambassador Kateřina Sequensová introduced cellist Thomas Prchal at the opening concert of the Huygens festival in Voorburg
on 11 September.
The Huygens festival in Voorburg (11-13 September) in Voorburg was opened by the concert of young musicians representing V4 countries and the Netherlands.
The Czech Republic was represented by cellist Thomas Prchal, student at the Academy of Musical Talent in Utrecht and at the Royal Conservatory in The Hagues. Thomas regularly performs in the Netherlands and abroad: for example in France (eg Salle Cortot, Paris), Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic (eg Dvořák Zaal Rudolfinum, Prague), Luxembourg, Hungary and Spain (eg Auditorio de Galicia). Thomas regularly performs as a soloist with orchestra. He has played with Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Orkest van het Oosten, Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim and the Noord Nederlands Orkest. He is also very fond of chamber music; for three years he was a member of the string quartet Young Strings Zeist, with which he received lessons from members of the Jerusalem, Casals and Schumann Quartets. Besides playing the cello, Thomas loves to compose. He has written several pieces for cello and piano, cello solo, various chamber music ensembles, cello with string orchestra ('Rhapsody' and 'Symbiosis ”) and cello with symphony orchestra (' Phoenix '). Thomas is in the fifth year of the Christelijk Gymnasium in Utrecht and likes to play tennis.
Ambassador Kateřina Sequensová also handed over the mouth masks made by local quilt club of the Czech town Hranice to the organisers of the Huygens festival. Even if Hranice and Leidschendam-Voorburg are officially no more twin towns, the cooperation between the citizens still continues.
