Photographic Exhibition on Iraqi Kurdistan Opens in Kutná Hora

On 14 August 2026, an exhibition of photographs from Iraqi Kurdistan by the internationally acclaimed French war and humanitarian photographer Lâm Duc Hiên was officially opened in Kutná Hora.

For more than 35 years, Hiên has regularly returned to the region. Alongside capturing the rugged natural beauty of this mountainous land, he has succeeded in documenting unique images of Iraqi Kurdish society before the achievement of political autonomy within Iraq and prior to the beginning of its modernization boom. His photographs are rich in poetry and human emotion, yet they also portray hardship and suffering. The collection further highlights the humanitarian consequences of persecution under Saddam Hussein's regime and the wars that followed.

The exhibition is located in the park adjacent to the Cathedral of St. Barbara. In this format, it is being presented in Kutná Hora as a world premiere and will remain open until the end of September 2026.

The official opening was attended by Mr. Safeen Dizayee, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government, as the guest of honour. The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Lukáš Gjurič, Consul General in Erbil.
