Celebration of the National Day of the Czech Republic and of 30th Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in Erbil

On the occasion of the Czech National Day and the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, the Czech Consulate General in Erbil organized a gala reception at the Erbil Rotana Hotel on 28th October 2019.

More than 350 guests, including top representatives of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region - administration, parliament, political parties, ethnic and religious representatives, business leaders, attended the reception in the main hall of the Rotana Erbíl Hotel thematically decorated with exhibition of black-and-white photographs from the year 1989 events. ,. Former students in Czechoslovakia, diplomatic and consular corps, representatives of international organizations, Czech and local NGOs operating in Iraqi Kurdistan and implementing projects with the financial support of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other prominent guests from cultural life and civil society participated as well.

Thanks to contributions of sponsors, the festive atmosphere could be emphasized by a performance of a representative of the Czech classical music - the top chamber music ensemble Bohemia Saxophone Quartet which pleasantly surprised the guests by playing the Czech and Iraqi anthems and especially the anthem of Iraqi Kurdistan.

Good Moravian wine and Czech beer, as well as traditional beef goulash with dumplings and other gems of Czech cuisine were enjoyed by guests.

The winners of traditional raffle were awarded by sponsors' prizes and other small prizes from Czech crystal glass.

Spectacular first presentation of the latest Škoda Kodiaq on the Iraqi market by Škoda's exclusive dealer in Iraq Shireen Company in cooperation with the local lifestyle brand Mr. Erbil was an important part of the program.

This year's gala reception did not disappoint the expectations of the guests (not only after the successful reception in 2018) and made a significant contribution to strengthening the good name of the Czech Republic and the Czech Consulate General in Iraqi Kurdistan.
