In the presence of Mme Eva Drdáková, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Erbil, and Mr. Farhad Atrushi, Governor of Duhok, the opening ceremony of the new building of a children's home for children from the displaced population and refugees, who lost their parents in the war, was held on September 14, 2017, in City of Duhok. Construction of the building was funded by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic. The financial support was allocated to the Duhok Governorate on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by H.E. Jan Vycital, Ambassador in Baghdad, on behalf of the Czech Republic, and for the Iraqi side by Mr. Farhad Atrushi, Governor of the Duhok Province, in December 2016. The facility is under the management of the General Directorate for Care and Social Development of Duhok Governorate.
Building construction commenced in February 2017 and completion took place by July 31, 2017. During this time, Mme Eva Drdakova, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Erbil, made three trips to Duhok: the first one in January 2017 with respect to the originals of the signed Memorandum, the second one in May 2017 to monitor the progress of the project work, and the third one on September 14, 2017 to the ceremonial opening of the building.
The event was monitored by many media, and it was the Governor Atrushi who, together with Mme CG Drdáková, cut the ribbon and made the official first tour of the building. The second Vice-Governor for Humanitarian and Development Assistance, Mr. Ismael Muhamed Ahmed, design engineer Mr. Nizar Tamar, building engineers, children's home director, and journalists were present.
The interior of the building is very pleasant, on the ground floor, there are: one kitchen with a dining room for the small inhabitants, an office, a playroom, a nursing room for sick children, two bedrooms with barrier-free access for children on a wheelchair, as well as two bathrooms. Upper floor includes five bedrooms, a classroom, two bathrooms and a terrace. The entire house is surrounded by a nicely fixed garden with a fountain that has been repaired and put into operation. The Czech Republic can rightly be proud of what has been achieved out of its finances.
At the end of the visit, a brief press conference was held, at the Governor Atrushi and CG Drdáková addressed the media.
