On this occasion the Embassy informed the audience on the upcoming cultural events in autumn 2009.

The film The Karamazovs was inspired by Dostoyevsky’s novel The Brothers Karamazov and centred on the successful theatre play presented by Prague’s Dejvice Theatre. The play was directed by Lukáš Hlavica and based on the famous dramatisation by Evald Schorm at Na zábradlí Theatre. A theatre ensemble from Prague arrives in Cracow to present the play at the city’s alternative drama festival. The production is to be staged in an unusual venue – the local steelworks. As rehearsals get under way, we follow not only the emotional story examining issues of faith, immortality and the salvation of the human soul, but also the relationships within the acting troupe itself, which strangely reflect Dostoevsky’s “great” themes. The stage drama is transferred to the real world when a tragedy occurs during rehearsals involving one of the spectators... The film was awarded two Czech Lions in 2008 and received the FIPRESCI Award at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary and Kristian Award at the International Festival Febiofest in Prague.

The screening was attended by Czech expatriots, students, Danish friends of the Czech cinematography and diplomats.

The Embassy informed the participants on the upcoming cultural and social events. In Shambala Gallery in Copenhagen an exhibition by the Czech painter Jan Tichý will open on 8 October 2009. The tradition of Czech film screenings will continue with the film Tobruk by Václav Marhoul on 13 October 2009. The director will be present and will discuss with the audience after the film. The traditional state reception on the occasion of the foundation of Czechoslovakia will take place on 28 October 2009. An exceptional film screening will take place at the Embassy on 19 November 2009 – a foreign documentary Burma VJ: Reporting from a Closed Country. The director of the Burma Centre in Prague,Ms. Sabe Amthor Soe, will be present and will participate in the discussion after the film. On the occasion of the 20^th anniversary of the fall of communism in Europe the Embassy has arranged a travelling exhibition 20^th Anniversary of the Fall of the Iron Curtain that will be exhibited subsequently at the Universities in Odense, Århus, Aalborg and Copenhagen.
