Fokus Tjekkiet - The retrospective of Jiří Menzel’s films in Copenhagen

On February 1st 2008 the series of retrospective screenings of Jiří Menzel’s films was launched at the Danish Film Institute – Cinemateket with the screening of the film I served the King of England (from the year 2006).

On February 1 st 2008 the series of retrospective screenings of Jiří Menzel's films was launched at the Danish Film Institute - Cinemateket with the screening of the film I served the King of England (from the year 2006). The director himself was present at this first screening of the retrospective series. The retrospective will last until February 17 th 2008. The other films presented are: Closely Watched Trains (1967), Capricious Summer (1968), Larks on a String (1969), Short Cut (1980), The Smowdrop Festival (1983) My Sweet Little Village (1985), and The End of Old Times (1989).

The retrospective screening of the films of Jiří Menzel inaugurated Fokus Tjekkiet - Focused on the Czech Republic - festival, which takes place in Copenhagen and other cities during February and March 2008. The festival is initiated and organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Denmark.
A glass of wine after the screening
The second part of the inauguration of Fokus Tjekkiet festival took place at the embassy on February 2 nd 2008 with the screening another Menzel film, Seclusion near a Forest from 1976. After the film the director answered questions from the audience, which consisted mainly of Czechs living in Denmark and members of Dansk-Tjekkisk Forening, the Danish-Czech society. After the film the audience met over a glass of wine.
