IMPORTANT ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
- Citizens of the EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland can stay temporarily in the territory of the Czech Republic without any special permission and only on the basis of a travel document or identity card.
- If they intend to reside in the Czech Republic for a period of more that 3 months, they have the right to request the issuance of a certificate of temporary residence.
- The requirements for the issuance of a certificate of temporary residence in the Czech Republic are defined in Section 87a (2) of the Alien Act and can be found HERE.
- In the case of a joint stay in the Czech Republic with a citizen of the EU or any of the aforementioned countries, which is expected to exceed 3 months, family members are required to apply to the police for the issuance of a temporary residence permit within a period of 3 months of their entry to the territory.
- The conditions and requirements for the issuance of a temporary residence permit are defined in Section 87b (2) of the Alien Act, applying the provisions of 87a (2) and can be found HERE.
- The application may be lodged in person, in representation with an attorney power or by post.
- If a family member does not stay in the Czech Republic together with a citizen of the EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland, the conditions for his/her stay in the Czech Republic are the same as those for third-country nationals who do not fall into the category of persons enjoying the Community right of free movement.
- Prior to your visit of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago, please arrange an appointment. The business hours are from Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and newly also on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
