The Czech Embassy in Brussels no longer has the ability to issue visas. Please send your application to the visa centre in Dresden. 

You do not have to meet these conditions if you are a citizen of a state presented in the list of countries whose nationals are entitled to file an application for a long-term visa at any Czech Embassy whatsoever (Decree No. 429/2010 Coll.).

Changes to travel health insurance for stays of more than 90 days in the Czech Republic

Effective from 2 August 2021, the amendment to the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals introduces cardinal changes to submitting documents on travel health insurance for stays of more than 90 days.

The changes are as follows:

1. The health insurance coverage extends from necessary and urgent care to comprehensive health care.
2. For the coming five years (from 2 August 2021 to 2 August 2026), travel health insurance covering comprehensive health care may be taken out exclusively with Pojišťovna VZP, a.s.
3. This obligation does not apply to foreign nationals covered by the Czech public health insurance scheme, or whose health care is covered under an international agreement, or who hold a valid EHIC and GHIC health insurance card. Also, this obligation does not apply to EU citizens and their close family members.

If an application for a long-term visa or long-term residence permit was submitted by or on 1 August 2021, it is possible to enter the Czech Republic with a document on travel health insurance covering only the necessary and urgent care valid during the entire period of stay and contracted with another insurance company than VZP a.s. (the insurance contract shall be submitted to the Embassy before issuing the visa); however it is obligatory to contract comprehensive health insurance with the Pojišťovna VZP, a.s. insurance company within 90 days of entering the Czech Republic.

If the application for a long-term visa or long-term residence permit is submitted on or after 2 August 2021, the foreign national has to submit following documents to the Embassy before issuing the visa:

• the document on the travel health insurance covering the necessary and urgent care for the first 90 days of residence (may be contracted with another insurance company than VZP a.s. that is authorised to contract insurance according to § 180j (2) of the Act) and the document on comprehensive health insurance (contracted exclusively with Pojišťovna VZP, a.s.) for the remaining period of stay.

• or, the foreign national may directly submit the document on comprehensive health insurance contracted with Pojišťovna VZP, a.s. for the entire period of stay. The document on contracted comprehensive travel health insurance contracted with another insurance company for the entire period of stay may only be submitted if the insurance contract was executed on 1 August 2021 at the latest.
