Bilateral Relations
The diplomatic relations between Czechoslovakia and the Republic of Lebanon were first established in 1947. In the same year the Czechoslovakian Diplomatic mission was opened in Beirut and it was granted the Embassy status in 1962.
The successive Czech Republic was recognized by Lebanon on January 1st 1993 and diplomatic relations were established immediately. Lebanon has opened its diplomatic mission in Prague in 1957.
The relations between the Czech Republic and Lebanon have been traditionally friendly, balanced and correspond to the potential of both countries. Their development is continuously hindered by the internal situation in Lebanon (civil war 1975-90, economic collapse and internal political crisis in 2019 to 2024). Mutual relations are supported, among others, by cooperation in the security field, significant part of mutual relations is also the provision of Czech development and humanitarian assistance to Lebanon. The trade balance has long been significantly active in favor of the Czech Republic. Trade relations are more intensive in agriculture and food sectors, in engineering and in the defense industry.
