Webinar Showcases Opportunities for Czech–Greek Cooperation in Hydrogen

An expert webinar organised by the Czech Technology Platform HYTEP took place on 13 May 2026 with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens. More than forty participants joined the webinar, featuring presentations by leading Greek experts in the hydrogen sector. The event confirmed the growing importance of hydrogen in the energy transition and highlighted the prospects for Czech-Greek cooperation in this sector.
The webinar “The Hydrogen Economy in Greece: Research, Infrastructure, and Industrial Development” offered insights into a wide range of issues related to the development of the hydrogen sector in Greece, from research and storage to skills development and industrial initiatives. Representatives of leading Greek institutions and companies took part, including the research center CERTH, the University of Patras, the CluBE platform, the companies Motor Oil Hellas and Hellenic Hydrogen, as well as the gas transmission system operator DESFA. Over forty participants joined the webinar. The opening remarks were delivered by the Czech Ambassador in Greece, Ivo Šilhavý, who underlined the significance of hydrogen as a key element for decarbonization and emphasized the growing potential for Czech-Greek cooperation.
The presentations explored Greece’s potential in hydrogen production and storage, the transformation of coal-dependent regions, and the expansion of infrastructure, including international connectivity. Examples of ongoing initiatives included the North 1 and Ephyra projects, as well as the Trieres Hydrogen Valley. The discussion confirmed that the most promising areas for Czech-Greek cooperation include infrastructure development, hydrogen applications in transport, and professional training for the recently emerging sector.
