On 8–9 June 2026, Athens hosted the Research and Innovation Matchmaking Event, which brought together representatives of universities, research institutions, innovative companies, and start-ups from the Czech Republic, Greece, and Cyprus. The event provided a valuable platform for fostering professional networking, facilitating the exchange of expertise, and exploring concrete opportunities for future cooperation. It was organized by the Enterprise Europe Network with the support of the Embassies of the Czech Republic and Cyprus in Athens.
The event was jointly organized by the Cypriot, Athens-based, and Czech branches of the Enterprise Europe Network, an initiative that supports small and medium-sized enterprises, promotes international networking, and helps organizations engage in European funding programmes. Its main objective was to connect representatives of research institutions, businesses, start-ups, and the public sector and encourage the development of international partnerships and joint projects funded by the European Union.
The programme combined discussions on European research and innovation priorities and funding opportunities with practical presentations of project opportunities and support tools. Interactive activities, including pitching sessions and B2B matchmaking meetings, allowed participants to move from exchanging ideas to exploring concrete forms of cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, energy, healthcare, and sustainable development.
The event attracted around one hundred participants from Greece, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Albania, North Macedonia, Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Romania. The Czech delegation included six representatives from the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and Charles University, who presented their research activities and proposals for future cooperation. Alongside the expert presentations, Czech participants actively took part in matchmaking meetings focused on building future project consortia and strengthening cooperation with Greek, Cypriot, and other European partners.
The discussions took place in an open and friendly atmosphere, and the Czech presence was clearly visible throughout the event. The seminar provided a valuable opportunity to showcase Czech research and innovation capacities in areas that are among the key priorities of European research and innovation policy.
Research and innovation remain among the fields where the potential for cooperation between the Czech Republic and Greece has not yet been fully utilized. Supporting the development of partnerships in these areas therefore continues to be one of the long-term priorities of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens.
