On 15 December 2025, Prague hosted a special presentation titled “Discovering Czech Technologies for Urban Mobility and Smart Cities” for ambassadors of African countries. The event brought together non-resident ambassadors of South Africa, Rwanda, Congo, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
The program featured an overview of Prague’s Integrated Urban Transport System and a visit to the Urban Transport Control Center, including live demonstrations of intelligent traffic management. The session was supported by Václav Prášil, Director of the Sub-Saharan Africa Department, and Zdeněk Čechura, Director of International Relations and European Affairs at the Ministry of Transport.
This initiative reflects the Czech Republic’s long-term commitment to strengthening partnerships with African nations and promoting economic cooperation in public transport, smart city solutions, research, and education.
Highlights of the Program
- Prague Integrated Transport (PID) – a unified fare system coordinating metro, trams, buses, trains, ferries, and cable cars, managed by ROPID.
- Technical Administration of Roads (TSK) – presentation of the Main Traffic Control Center and Traffic Information Center, ensuring 24/7 traffic monitoring and telematics management.

- Strategic Framework for Prague Mobility – Sustainable Mobility Plan and Action Plan 2024–2026 for safe, efficient, and eco-friendly transport development.
Participants praised the practical demonstrations and shared experiences in managing large-scale public transport networks. Discussions focused on knowledge transfer in traffic telematics, dispatcher training, digitalization of city services, open data, sustainable mobility planning, and financing infrastructure projects. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa will build on this successful format as part of its economic diplomacy, fostering cooperation with Ethiopian partners and connecting them with Czech companies and institutions in transport technologies and urban services. The meeting concluded at the historic Czernin Palace, where ambassadors met with Kateřina Sequensová, Director General for Non-European Countries, Economic and Development Cooperation.
