Victims of Communism Commemoration

Deputy Chief of Mission of the Czech Embassy Jaroslav Zajíček joined a two day long commemoration of the victims of communism on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on June 11-12, 2015.

The annual remembrance concentrated on human rights in Cuba and the legacy of communism in the post-Soviet sphere.  The two day commemoration was attended by representatives of multiple embassies, members of the US Congress, human rights organizations, and over 300 participants.

The commemoration began with the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s Triumph of Liberty Luncheon at the Florida House on Capitol Hill, at which Florida Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, and Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton offered their remarks on the current situation in Cuba.  Deputy Chief of Mission of the Czech Embassy Jaroslav Zajíček attended the luncheon as well as the wreath laying ceremony the next day for the more than 100 million victims of communism around the world.
