Film: Broken Voices (Sbormistr)
The Avalon Theatre will screen the film Broken Voices (Sbormistr) by director Ondřej Provazník on January 14, 2026, at 8 pm. Set in the 1990s, this gripping psychological drama follows Karolína, a gifted young singer who earns a coveted place in a world-renowned girls’ choir alongside her sister. As her talent draws the unwanted attention of the choirmaster, the story unfolds into a haunting exploration of innocence confronted by abusive authority.
Inspired by the true story of the children’s choir Bambini di Praga, the film examines the complex power dynamics that shaped the young lives within it. Broken Voices was nominated for Best Film at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Directed by Ondřej Provazník, 108 minutes, in Czech with English subtitles
