Embassy Series: Matthew Chang, Piano
The Embassy Series presents a special evening with 17-year-old virtuoso pianist Matthew Chang at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on April 28 at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6:00 pm).
Matthew Chang will captivate audiences with a rich and dynamic program featuring masterworks by Dvořák, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy. The evening will include selections such as Dvořák’s Eight Humoresques, Op. 101, Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 26, “Les Adieux,” Op. 81a, Liszt’s Transcendental Études, Debussy’s Préludes, Book II, and Chopin’s Variations on Mozart’s “Là ci darem la mano,” Op. 2, among others.

About the Pianist
In 2024–2025, Matthew Chang was awarded the Silver Prize and a Special Award for Best Chopin Performance at the national finals of the MTNA Senior Piano Competition. He also received the Silver Medal and a Special Award for Best Chopin Mazurka at the 31st International Chopin Piano Competition in Szafarnia, Poland.
His many honors include the National YoungArts Award with Distinction, prizes at the Rosalyn Tureck International Bach Competition, and the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition for Young Pianists.
Matthew gave his first livestream recital at age eleven and has since performed internationally in venues across Puerto Rico, Spain, Austria, Hungary, South Korea, and beyond. He has appeared with the Sinfonia da Camera under Maestro Ian Hobson and has been featured on NPR’s From the Top. Most recently, he was named a third-year National Chopin Scholarship recipient.
