The Great Richard award, the most prestigious award of the Prague Zoo, was presented this year to B.Ganbaatar, the director of the Gobi B Strictly Protected Area, for his significant contribution to the rescue of Przewalski’s horses and its return to the wild.
The award was granted by the Prague Zoo director Miroslav Bobek and accepted by the Ambassador of Mongolia to the Czech Republic Gansukh Damdin on behalf of Ganbaatar.
"Ganbaatar’s significant contribution to the return of Przewalski’s horses to nature is completely indisputable, as is his contribution to the successful operation and expansion of the Gobi B SPA," said Miroslav Bobek, director of the Prague Zoo. "I can't imagine how we would carry out transports of Przewalski’s horses from the Czech Republic to Mongolia without Ganbaatar and how they would adapt to local conditions. In short, we consider him a great collaborator who shares our values and is well involved in protecting biodiversity beyond his responsibilities”, he added.
Ganbaatar said upon his Great Richard award: “I am very grateful for the award and long-term efforts of the Prague Zoo, thanks to which we managed to bring the number of wild horses in the Great Gobi B Specially Protected Area to a sustainable level and thus significantly contribute to the rescue of this endangered species. Many thanks to my Prague colleagues for their help in reintroducing the “Takhi” and for everything they do to protect Mongolian wildlife and nature. "
