Meeting of the Czech Consul General with Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines

On July 14, 2025, the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Toronto, Radek Machů, held a productive meeting with the Honourable Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines. The discussion focused on the growing importance of bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and the province of Ontario, and cooperation in the areas of energy, mining, trade, and economic development.
The meeting allowed an exchange of views on the latest geopolitical and macroeconomic development shaping the global landscape, as well as emerging opportunities and challenges within the energy and mining sectors. Trade diversification is a shared priority of Canada and the Czech Republic, and both sides strive to strengthen the partnership that contributes to sustainable growth and innovation.
The current context offers opportunities for enhanced economic and innovation cooperation, building of resilient supply chains, R&D and university collaboration. Ontario and the Czech Republic share relevant opportunities in clean and nuclear energy technologies. The meeting also allowed to mention the vital role of the Czech community in Canada and its ongoing contributions to strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
The Consulate General actively promotes cooperation with Ontario and Canada in the sectors of energy and raw materials, supporting regularly Czech participation at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Convention in Toronto and the Global Energy Show in Calgary. In the second half of the year, the Consulate is organizing trade missions focused on R&D cooperation, cybersecurity, emergency and disaster solutions and climate change.
