Statement by the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs on the US 28-point Peace Plan

Czechia is thoroughly studying the US 28-point peace plan and discussing it with its allies in the Coalition of the Willing. We and our European colleagues consider the existence of the plan to be a starting point for further negotiations on a peaceful settlement between Ukraine and Russia.
Let us bear in mind that any peace settlement in Ukraine will directly affect security across the entire European continent for decades to come. We must therefore approach it with the utmost responsibility, as it directly concerns us. At the same time, European security is equal to Czech security. The current draft plan also contains provisions that would affect European defense capabilities in addition to Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Further diplomatic steps will therefore be aimed at finalizing the plan so that it does not affect Czech security. That is why we support the representatives of the E3 countries (Germany, France, and the United Kingdom) and other countries that have already entered into diplomatic negotiations with the US to create another version of the peace plan. We also support Ukraine, which has been, is, and must remain an effective European bulwark against Russian imperial ambitions. We consider it important to seek additional sources of support for Ukraine and to continue sanctions limiting the Russian war machine.
It is impossible to negotiate about Ukraine without Ukraine. It is impossible to negotiate about Europe without Europe. It is impossible to discuss Czechia without Czechia.
By yielding to the aggressor in 1938, Europe gained peace for a single year. And then World War II followed. Let us learn from this. Let us not make the same mistake in 2025.
Jan Lipavský, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic
