Prof. Ambros was a distinguished scholar of Comparative Literature and Slavic Studies at the University of Toronto, internationally respected for her pioneering work in Czech Studies, Russian and Czech literary theory, and the semiotics of drama and theatre. She was particularly renowned for her contributions to the studies of the Prague Linguistic Circle, on Central European cultural history, and for her research on puppets, robots, golems, and other artificial creatures in literature, theatre, and film.

Throughout her academic career, Prof. Ambros inspired generations of students and scholars through her teaching, research, and publications. Her work fostered a deeper understanding of the intersections between literature, performance, language, culture, and identity.

Prof. Ambros also maintained a longstanding relationship with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, contributing to numerous cultural and academic initiatives that helped strengthen Czech-Canadian cultural and scholarly ties.

Her passing is a great loss to the academic community, the Czech and Slovak community in Canada, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.
