At The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

On November 30, 2021, The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, the Honourable Ted Arnott, received Petr Buriánek, the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Toronto, and his deputy, Nora Marešová.
During the meeting and friendly conversation, Ted Arnott expressed interest in the political situation in the Czech Republic and appreciated the close relations between the Canadian province of Ontario and the Czech Republic.
Mr. Buriánek briefly introduced The Speaker to the situation in the Czech Republic after the recent parliamentary elections. He also praised the role of the Czech community (most of which traditionally live in Ontario) for the development of mutual relations. In addition, he mentioned some specific topics of the ongoing cooperation between the province of Ontario and the Czech Republic and highlighted the values that both countries share that are the pillars our alliance is based on.
Mr. Buriánek thanked all the support that Ontario had given to our compatriots and to all those who had worked hard for the establishment of democracy and freedom in the former Czechoslovakia.
Finally, the Consul General informed the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly about the upcoming presidency of the Czech Republic in the EU, in the second half of 2022 and some events that are planned for that occasion.
