Czech journalist at a seminar on Dealing with the Past of Albania

Czech opinion journalist Martin Weiss participated in workshop titled: „Dealing with the past of Albania: the role of media in understanding history and promoting reconciliation“ . The seminar was organized by the OSCE Presence in Albania on October 16, 2015. The workshop took place within the project supporting a platform for national dialogue about the human rights violations by Albania´s former Communist regime, funded by the German Government. The Czech Embassy in Tirana contributes to the project.
 

The moderated discussion among Albanian experts on the topics of totalitarian regime joined also specialists from countries with similar historical experience, including Germany and the Czech Republic. They had an opportunity to present relevant media experience and studies from their own countries  and discuss the sensitivity of information revealed by the opening of the former secret service files. 

Czech participant, Martin Weiss is a leading Czech opinion journalist. He has contributed to underground publications during the late 1980s and since then he works in media. His input focused mainly on review of the Czech experience dealing with inheritance of secret service work and experience with public access to the files of the Czech State Secret Police.  The panelist explained development of the legal framework of public access to the files and used several showcases of media publicity of such information.
