Strong ties of Albanian students in former Czechoslovakia remain

The next in a series of meetings with the Friends of the Czech Republic group, made up mostly of Albanian students in the former Czechoslovakia, took place on 20 June 2024 at the Czech Embassy in Tirana and was hosted by Ambassador Karel Urban.

The meeting of ten former students and their company focused on a discussion of culture and literature. Ms. Markéta Mališová, a leading Czech literary figure and founder of the Franz Kafka Society, gave an insight into the life and work of this iconic writer. When asked by Mr. Piro Milkani (87 years old), former Ambassador of Albania in Prague, she said that there are many bizarre myths about Kafka, but he was a deeply sensitive and perceptive man, as best reflected in his letters and diaries.  The meeting also screened a documentary tracing the life of Mr. Abbas Hoxha (93), set in Czechia. Mr. Hoxha, after graduating from the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1954 and completing a postgraduate degree in radio, film and television technology, founded and managed the Albanian State Film Archive for many years.
