Meeting on the personality and work of Milan Kundera with friends of Czechia

The next in a series of cultural meetings with the Friends of the Czech Republic group, made up mostly of Albanian students in the former Czechoslovakia and their descendants, took place on 17 October 2024 at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tirana, hosted by Ambassador Pavel Vacek.

The meeting of the active members of the Friends of the Czech Republic group, which is adequate to the expat community in the conditions of Albania, focused on the person and work of the world-famous writer of Czech origin Milan Kundera. The leading Czech translator Professor Anna Kareninová, who was chosen by the writer himself to translate his French novels, gave an insight into her relationship with Milan Kundera and her approach to this responsible task. The meeting also featured a screening of the documentary From Joke to Insignificance by director Miloslav Šmídmajer, a sensitive reflection on the life and legacy of Milan Kundera. The meeting confirmed that the writer, whose timeless work mediated the totalitarian experience in the Western cultural space, remains an inspiration for deeper reflection.
