On the 22.-28. of May the 13th medical expert group visit to Israel was held on the occasion of the international exhibition BIOMED 2017. This visit was a result of the cooperation of the Czech-Israeli Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv, which organized an expert program on the spot.
Israel is a country with highly developed health care which is by performance the 4th best in the world (Bloomberg, August 2013, life expectancy, health costs relative to GDP, and cost per person). This is not only because of a number of unique projects (like the non-profit organization Yad Sarah), but also because of the high investment in research and development (with 4.5% of GDP Israel holds the first place).
The Czech doctors had the opportunity to visit health care facilities, which provided them with a quality program and a tour. They visited the Assuta Medical Center in Ramat HaChayal and the Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer. Assuta Hospital in Ramat HaChayal is the largest and the newest (2009) private hospital in Israel, which is focused on state-of-the-art diagnostic methods and treatment, especially in oncology and all surgical treatments. Sheba Hospital in Tel HaShomer is, on the other hand, the largest state hospital in Israel, but also in the Middle East. It was built after 1948 from the original British military hospital. Today it has more than 1,700 beds, 65 buildings are located on a 15-hectare campus with 120 clinical departments. The hospital employs about 1,100 doctors and more than 2,500 nurses.
Another part of the program was the visit of Herzog Hospital in Jerusalem, Israeli emergency rescue service Magen David Adom in Tel Aviv and Weizmann Institute in Rechovot, and the meeting with the representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv – Acting Head of the Embassy Mr. Karel Pažourek and commercial counselor Mr. Branislav Gál.
