Czechs and Slovaks together with Georgians commemorate 1989 events

A joint event to mark the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and the events of 1989 in former Czechoslovakia and Georgia was opened in Tbilisi on 17th October 2014 by First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Drulák, State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Peter Burian and Director of the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia Nukri Gelashvili.
The exhibition, organized in the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tbilisi in cooperation with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Tbilisi and the Archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, shows the most important events of 1989, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Velvet Revolution in former Czechoslovakia and the bloody suppression of a peaceful demonstration for independence in Tbilisi on 9th April 1989. The opening ceremony was attended also by the newly appointed First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Davit Dondua, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Nodar Kereselidze, Advisor to the President of Georgia for Minorities Sophie Shamanidi, Heads of Diplomatic Missions and other significant representatives of the political and cultural circles.
