​Ambassador Zdeněk Beránek presented his credentials

On September 12, the new Czech Ambassador to Estonia, Zdeněk Beránek, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis.

During their meeting, Ambassador Beránek outlined his priorities, emphasizing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation considering the security challenges currently facing Europe. He highlighted the long-standing Czech military presence in the Baltic region and the strong bilateral collaboration in cybersecurity and information exchange. The Czechs are interested in Estonia’s approach to anti-Russian sanctions and the handling of frozen Russian assets.

Regarding economic relations, the Ambassador pointed to several success stories—from Škoda cars, which are popular among Estonians, to Škoda Group trains, Škoda Electric trolleybuses, and investments by VAFO. He noted potential opportunities to deepen cooperation in the defense industry. Estonia is inspiring with its approach to digitalization and successful ecosystem of IT companies.

President Karis reflected on his positive relationship with the Czech Re

public and the excellent cooperation with Czech President Petr Pavel. He also expressed interest in expanding collaboration in education and science, and welcomed news of the successful partnerships between Czech and Estonian universities—including the University of Tartu, where he previously served as rector.
