(This article expired 12.06.2015 / 02:00.)

From 1st June til the end of August visitors of a coastal city of Pӓrnu have the opportunity to see the works of Sára and Jan Saudek in the Museum of New Art. The exposition is part of the annual nude art exhibition “Man & Woman”. Sára Saudková as well as the Ambassador Richard Kadlčák attended the opening ceremony.

Masterpieces of Czech prominent photographers Sára and Jan Saudek will be displayed in the Museum of New Art in Pӓrnu during the whole summer. The exposition of their very touching love-photographs is part of the annual international nude art exhibition “Man & Woman”. As there is a special topic every year the 21st exposition has a very specific keyword: “Anticipation”. In the light of the Ukrainian crisis this year´s exhibition is dedicated to the contemporary Ukrainian art, thus expressing the common anticipation of tolerance and respect for everyone´s point of view, everybody´s right for creativity, beauty and love. The artist Sára Saudková attended the opening ceremony and in her opening remarks she expressed support to “the reform movements” in Ukraine. The Ambassador Richard Kadlčák also participated at the ceremony.

The majority of pieces on display were created by Ukrainian artists, such as painters Marina Shkarupa and Anatoli Varvarov, sculptures Dina Margolina and Jyri Khranovsky or a photographer Igor Gaidai, whose photographs show the atmosphere of the Maidan Square in Kiev, taken during the escalation of the crises. Artists from many other countries such as Belarus, Russia and Estonia decided to support their Ukrainian counterparts and the people from Ukraine through this exhibition.

To avoid one-way relationship with Ukraine, the curators decided to display a selection of masterpieces of Estonian art at the Museum of Spiritual Treasures in Kiev. The exhibition, which will open on the 17th June, highlights the belief that basic human values are sacred and for that reason is entitled as “Sacred”.

The Ukrainian curator of the exhibition, Mrs. Tamara Karpenko, was also present in Pӓrnu for the opening ceremony. The Estonian curator Mr. Mark Soosaar is a well-known Estonian artist, film director and cinematographer and in his later career also a politician. As for his filmmaking, he focuses on ethnical and anthropological documentaries. With the former Estonian president Lennart Meri, he co-founded the Pӓrnu International Documentary and Anthropology Film Festival in 1987. Later, he took part in establishing the Pӓrnu Museum of New Art in 1998, where he continues to work as a director. In 2003 Mr. Mark Soosaar became a member of the Estonian Parliament.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic to Estonia would very much like to thank both of the curators for organizing this truly inspiring and extraordinary exposition, which expresses our solidarity with the situation in Ukraine in a very sensitive and uplifting way, and brings at least a little light of “anticipation” and hope to the crises.
