The 100th Anniversary of Founding of Czechoslovakia

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Estonia and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic based in Finland have celebrated together the 100th anniversary of founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918. The gala evening took place on 31st October 2018 at the Estonian National Library in Tallinn.

The programme started with a violoncello concert of two Czech (Aleš Kaspřík, Jiří Hanousek) and two Slovak (Eugen Prochác, Ján Slávik) excellent musicians. The violoncello quartet  performed fine works of the 19th century´s composers G. Goltermann and D. Popper, as well as of composers of the second half of the 20th century P. Šimai, I. Zeljenka and M. Krajči with great success. The concert hall of the Estonian National Library with almost 300 seats was completely filled.

After the concert, a reception celebrating the 100th anniversary was oficially opened with  Czech, Slovak and Estonian anthems. The guests were welcomed by Janne Andresoo, Director of the Estoninan National Library, followed by speeches of Ambassador of the Czech Embasy  in Tallinn Mrs. Gabriela Tománková and of Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Helsinki Mr. Tibor Králik. In their contributions, they mentioned common historical events of Czechoslovakia together with the decisive moments of each of the republics. They also highlighted the works of important personalities that stood at the birth of Czechoslovakia and the values on which then a new state was found. Together, they did not forget to re-emphasize the extraordinary friendly contemporary ties between the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.

During the festive evening, Ambassador Gabriela Tománková opened the Czech exhibition called ˮCzechoslovak Statehood 1918“ (author of its concept and a curator Lenka Lindaurová from the Czech Centers) and Ambassador Tibor Králik a Slovak multimedia show called „Searching for Beauty (authors and curators Michaela Čopíková and Veronika Obertová).

Both Czech and Slovak exhibitions are open to the public in the Estonian National Library´s exhibition grounds from the 1st to 19th November.
