14.03.2025 / 14:00
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm, the Swedish-Czech-Slovak Association, and the Czech Centre Stockholm invite you to another film evening, this time featuring the sci-fi comedy Tomorrow I’ll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea. This 1977 film by director Jindřich Polák will be screened on April 9 at 18:00 in the Pavilion of our Embassy. With this film, we would like to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Czech cinematography icon Jindřich Polák.
Synopsis: The satirical comedy Tomorrow I’ll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea, directed by Jindřich Polák, was inspired by a science fiction short story by Josef Nesvadba. The central plot revolves around an attempt by a group of former Nazis—who, thanks to anti-aging pills, are still alive in an era where time travel is possible—to deliver a hydrogen bomb to Hitler and alter history. The film is particularly demanding in terms of special effects, as the storyline repeatedly shifts between the future and the past, leading to an increasing number of doppelgängers of the main characters, especially the twins Jan and Karel Bureš, both played by Petr Kostka.
Jindřich Polák was recognized for his children's films, crime dramas, and sci-fi movies, receiving, among other awards, the Special Jury Prize in Sitges (1979), the title of Merited Artist (1980), and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Zlín (2001).
The film will be screened in Czech with English subtitles.
Entry is FREE, but reservations are required. The number of seats is limited to 40.
