Velvet Run 2025

Date: 22 November 2025 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Venue: Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm, Villagatan 21, Stockholm

On 22 November 2025 a symbolic run in the heart of Stockholm took place. This gathering celebrated freedom and commemorated the key events of the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia in 1989. This year marked the 36th anniversary of this historic milestone.
Participants, whether experienced runners or those who simply wished to take a walk through central Östermalm, joined us in celebrating the holiday of freedom.

Routes

This year, we once again returned to special routes shaped like a heart, a key, and the initials of Václav Havel – symbols of freedom.

●  Run 7.1 kilometers (The Key) – This year’s longest route ran along Valhallavägen, passing through the northern part of Östermalm, the university area, and continuing into the vast Ladugårdsgärdet park, where it went past the Royal Castle, the Museum of Technology, and the Finnish Embassy. (route here)

●  Run 3.8 kilometers (VH) – The route led through Humlegården park, where participants reached the statue of Carl von Linné, and then returned to the neighboring streets around the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm, which were circled in the shape of Václav Havel’s initials. (route here)

●  Walk 2.8 kilometers (The Heart) – This walking route also went through Humlegården park, which was crossed to its far end. From there, it continued toward Eriksbergsparken and Ellen Keys Park, where a playground themed “Living Room and Garden of Ellen Key” – dedicated to the Swedish feminist writer – was located. From there, the route led back to the Czech Embassy itself. (route here)
