Seminar and workshop of Czech illustrators: Tereza Šiklová & Jakub Plachý

Svenska Tecknare — Two Czech illustrators, Tereza Šiklová and Jakub Plachý, led a seminar for the public on March 10, 2025 at the headquarters of the Association of Swedish Illustrators and Graphic Designers (Svenska Tecknare). The following day, 11 March, they presented their own workshop on “impractically” designed books for Konstfack students.

Seminar & Workshop:
During the one‑hour seminar, the illustrators presented their work and experience. Both create children's books and are active in the children's literature scene. Together, they read from their books and gave a joint presentation. Tereza read from her forthcoming graphic novel, while Jakub introduced his Gallery and Xao Bookstore, among other projects.

The three‑hour workshop for Konstfack students then focused on non‑traditional, “impractical” layouts and book designs that can themselves serve as a way of illustrating and telling a story.

Tereza Šiklová:
Tereza is an illustrator and author originally from Prague. She has received several awards for her children's book Giant, including the Golden Ribbon, a nomination for the Czech Grand Design Awards, and 2nd place in the children's literature category in the competition for the most beautiful Czech Book of the Year. Her short comic stories were published in the anthology Š!, under the publishing house Kuš!. She regularly participates in illustrator and comics festivals and is currently working on her first graphic novel.

Jakub Plachý:
Jakub is the author of several children's books, namely: It's Morning, Follow the Elephant and The Big Pee Book. His books, in which the main characters are the wind, the sun or a football-loving elephant, are inspired by banal situations and different phenomena. Since 2016, when he founded Xao Gallery and Bookstore with friends, he has also organized exhibitions on book culture, illustration and graphic design, workshops, readings, and book launches.
