Screening: Year of the Widow

As part of the New European Film festival, which brings the film debuts of talented directors from across Europe to audiences in Stockholm, the award‑winning drama The Year of the Widow by director Veronika Lišková was screened on 16 September 2025 at 7:00 p.m. New European Film was created in collaboration with the Klara Biografen cinema and the EUNIC Stockholm group of cultural institutes.

Synopsis:
After her husband’s fatal health collapse, Petra in her early 40s becomes a widow. However, grief is not the only challenge that she and her teenage daughter Dominika have to face – almost immediately they are trapped in the never ending cycle of bureaucracy that a person’s death brings: mortgages, loans, rents, energy bills etc. Amidst the shattering lifequake Petra has to rely only on herself in the struggle for a new life against the disfavor of destiny.
