
Martinů´s Trois fragments de Juliette in Göteborg

A world premiere of the one-act opera by Bohuslav Martinů “Trois fragments de Juliette” took place in Göteborg Opera on Saturday April 13th, 2019, as the highlight of the “Czech Days in Göteborg”. The opera was staged together with Vox humana by Francis Poulenc. The performance turned out to be a roaring success, receiving attention from the Swedish media, which were generous with praise and positive reviews. The premiere was broadcast on the Swedish radio P2 and the Swedish TV channel SVT2 also informed about the event.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Czech Centre Stockholm cooperated with the Opera in the run-up to the premiere, attended by Ambassador Jiří Šitler and his wife and by consul Viera Jarešová. Representatives of the county and the city, consular corps, Czech community and other personalities of Göteborg´s social and cultural life also took part in the event. Mr. David Radok, the opera´s director and scenographer attended in person, as well as the artistic director of the opera of the National Theatre in Brno Jiří Heřman. Mr. Aleš Březina, the Director of the Bohuslav Martinů Institute, held a presentation of the exhibition „The Martinů Phenomenon“. The exhibition is located in the foyer of the Opera and can be seen during the entire performance period. Apart from the Director, David Radok, other notable Czech artists were also involved in the backstage, namely Zuzana Ježková (wardrobe design), Přemysl Janda (light design), and Dalibor Fencl (video design).
